JOB DESCRIPTION Springfield Plywood & Veneer Position Title: Quality Control Technician Reports to: Quality Control Manager Department: All Hours per shift: Day, Swing & Grave shifts, 8 hours plus required OT.
Wage: Level 3/4/5 (Once certified) Position Purpose: Perform quality inspections of plywood at all stages of production.
Continuously monitor the quality of the manufacturing process and provide feedback to operators, maintenance, supervisory personnel, and QC Manager.
Position Functions: Essential Functions* These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.
Perform quality inspections at all stages of production Know and understand quality management system being used at facility Ensure all QC measurements are being recorded and reported Continuous monitoring of the manufacturing process and provide feedback to operators, maintenance, leads, supervisors, general foreman and QC manager Help train new and experienced employees to improve their job skills to enhance quality Assist in analysis of downfall and troubleshoot quality issues Schedule QC checks; analyze and interpret data Run specified test on machine centers to evaluate their performance Set/adjust sizes on machine centers by making adjustments to machine center program parameters.
This is based on a set of pre-determined measurements Take the lead in safety.
Promote safety awareness.
Ensure proper use of lockout/tagout/retry and PPE.
Encourage good housekeeping.
Respond to employee and safety committee safety concerns in a timely manner Level 5 – Ability to demonstrate and operate optimization systems throughout the facility.
Utilize these systems to help improve mill quality.
This includes analysis of data and making adjustments based on that analysis.
Also, must be willing to accept responsibility for making adjustments on own Level 5 – Set/adjust sizes on machine centers by making adjustments to machine center program parameters.

Some out of town travel may be required Working Environment: (1) Environmental exposure- Inside 95% of the time: average temperature 65 degrees, high 100 degrees, and low 40 degrees.
Outside 5% of the time: average temperature 65 degrees, high 100 degrees, and low 30 degrees.
(2) Noise or Vibration- to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including forklifts.
(3) Atmospheric conditions-Fumes: none, Dust: present, Mist: water, Odors: green veneer, Gases: none, Poor ventilation: none.
Personal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection.
(2) Hearing Protection.
(3) High Visibility Vest.
(4) Approved Footwear.
(5) Gloves when required.

Skills: Basic knowledge of veneer grades and plywood grades.
Working knowledge of all manufacturing centers.
Computer skills – experience with Excel and Word.
Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal with all levels of the company from hourly, supervisors, vendors, and management.
The communication needs to be direct without being confrontational and needs to accurately assess areas in need of improvement without exaggerating the gravity of the issue.
Analytical skills – Ability to read and write technical information and reports.
Training skills – Ability to train, educate foreman, supervisors, leads and employees.
Present training and education via job guides, SOP’s, and/or PowerPoint presentations.
Tools – Ability to accurately read a tape measure, calipers, micrometer, thermometer and other precision measuring tools.
Ability to work with little supervision.
Must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task.
Safety: (1) Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery.
(2) Always use our 14 step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy.
(3) Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don’t over reach, get help as needed to push loads out).
(4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection).
(5) Be aware of and communicate with your co-worker at all times (ex: forklift driver).
(6) Will be required to read and write during safety training.
