Department Summary Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) is a vibrant department, which comprises five units, and approximately 270 employees: Facilities Services, Utilities & Energy, Campus Planning, Office of Sustainability, and Design & Construction.

Facilities Services (FS) is responsible for the management of human, financial and material resources, the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures related to the operation, maintenance, repair and minor renovation of university buildings, grounds and infrastructure systems.
These services provide the University of Oregon community with a safe, efficient, reliable, functional and aesthetically pleasing learning environment in support of the University’s mission and vision.
The Plumbing Shop provides a safe and quality environment for students, staff, and community through maintenance, repair and installation all facility supply and waste utility and distribution systems and components.
Position Summary The purpose of the Plumber position is to provide technical support in helping achieve overall University of Oregon goals by performing the duties of a plumber for Facilities Services.
The primary duties of this position are maintaining, repairing, replacing, and installing plumbing fixtures, potable and non-potable water systems, dewatering and waste systems, steam, gas, compressed air, vacuum systems, reverse osmosis system, and other related systems, primarily within research facilities.
Facilities are located throughout campus, therefore materials and tools are transported in university vehicles to the various work locations.
This position is an integral part of a maintenance team dedicated to providing the campus community with a quality physical environment in which to work and study.
This position will be responsible for maintaining all types of piping systems, including: vent, waste, storm (inside and outside of facilities), potable and non-potable hot and cold water, nitrogen and natural gas, compressed air, reverse osmosis water and steam lines, as well as associated specialty devices.
Maintaining these types of piping systems will often include repairing or replacing faucets, valves, plumbing fixtures of all kinds, regulating valves, vacuum breakers, trap primers, circulating pumps, sump pumps, sewer pumps, water heaters, gas cocks, etc.
Tasks will also include cleaning drains and clearing stoppages, making sectional replacements, flushing and ensuring proper attachment through inspection and adjustment of hangers, as well as new plumbing installations that encompass supply, waste, vent, gas, and steam using all types of piping systems such as glass, plastics, copper, galvanized, and black.
This position will operate powered drain cleaning machines and pipe threading machines.
Interactions/contacts occur daily with the campus community in the course of performing work and responding to emergencies.
This position works as a member of a team while frequently performing tasks independently.
Decisions may be made about the best method and materials necessary to perform a particular task.
They may also include setting priorities, assessing customer needs and responding to those needs.
Work is reviewed regularly by the Zone Supervisor to ensure it is performed efficiently, safely, and meets both expectations and applicable requirements.
A performance appraisal is conducted annually.
This position will be required to participate in on-call duties after hours on a rotating basis.
Physical Demands This position will often need to lift heavy equipment, up to 50 pounds.
Special Requirement This position will require a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain UO Driver's Certification.
Essential Personnel This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather.
This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.
On-call Rotation This position may be required to participate in an on call rotation.
Being on call requires the participant to live in an area with cell phone reception or to be within cell phone reception for the entire duration of the on call period.
On call also requires the participant to be within a 1 hour drive of the UO campus for the entire duration of the on call period to be able to respond to issues if needed.
On call periods are typically 1-4 weeks in duration.
Minimum Requirements • A valid Oregon Plumber's license; AND • One of the following: - One year of experience as a journey-level plumber; or - Completion of an approved apprenticeship program.

Preferred Qualifications • Experience in higher education facilities.
• Experience in industrial/commercial facilities as a plumber.
• Experience with service work as a plumber.
• Five years of facility plumbing maintenance experience.
• Welding experience.
• Experience with computerized maintenance management system.
• Experience operating powered drain cleaning machines and pipe threading machines.
• Level 5 Steam Fitter Certification.
• Current back-flow certification.
