this apprenticeship teaches Data Telecom, Intercom, Paging and Controls
Description of Work: This trade encompasses both installers and repairers, and can be inside or outside work.
Installers are involved with all the telecommunications wiring in a new or remodeled building, mounting equipment, terminating cables and testing the finished product.
Repairers need to be able to quickly diagnose problems by using a wide variety of test equipment, and then need to correct the problem.
These problems may be within the customer’s equipment, the local utility company or the long distance company.
A repairer needs to have the mental flexibility to change course at the beep of a pager.
Whether it’s splicing fiber optic cable or putting in thousands of lines of data into a state-of-the-art PBX, the employment outlook for licensed Limited Energy Technicians Class B is strong.
Working Conditions: The work in this trade is done both indoors and outdoors, in existing and newly constructed buildings, in residential and commercial structures, and in all kinds of weather around noise, mud, and debris.
Individuals in this trade often work in cramped areas and in awkward positions.
