15/ hour)Position Overview: The Maintenance Technician Apprentice is the entry level class in a State accredited apprenticeship program which entails completion of a 3-year apprenticeship followed by journey classification.
Employees in this classification perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks to maintain City streets, sanitary sewer systems, surface and subsurface storm drainage systems, street signs and surface markings, City buildings, equipment, and landscaped areas.
Employees in this classification take pride in being directly responsible for maintaining the positive image that the City projects to the community through our facilities and infrastructure.
Summary of Essential Duties: • Performs semi-skilled and skilled tasks to maintain streets, sanitary sewer systems, surface and subsurface storm drainage systems, street signs and surface markings, buildings, equipment, and landscaped areas;• Participates in the collection , tabulation and review of field data and other information such as routine traffic studies, condition surveys and inventories of public infrastructure;• Sewer TV inspection and flow monitoring;• Drives and operates equipment and vehicles such as dump trucks, street sweepers, mowers, excavators, road grader, and other equipment;• Removal of hazardous objects/materials;• Participates in special project assignments.

gov)Preferences may be given for knowledge and experience: Candidates do not need to have prior experience in the field of maintenance, operations or public works.
But should candidates have prior experience, preferences may be given for: • Data Entry• Previous use of equipment, all types big and small• Previous government experience in maintenance, operations, or public works• Spanish speaking proficiencyPhysical Requirements: Position frequently works in varying outdoor weather conditions and frequently works near moving mechanical equipment.
It requires the ability to lift objects that could weigh a maximum of 80 pounds.
Employees with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) are subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.
Selection and Interview Process: Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications (listed above) may be asked to complete basic math and reading comprehension.
Applicants invited to test will be directly notified.
The selection process will include: interviews, reference checks, background investigation; as well as, post-offer (conditional offer) medical certification, drug and alcohol screening, and physical abilities test.
As a part of our selection process, it will be necessary for candidates to provide the names and email addresses of up to five professional references (including two managers) that can provide information on work performance.
