The Registration Team is responsible for welcoming patients at the Slocum Center.
It is a fast paced, multi tasking team where there is never a dull moment.
It is an excellent place to learn about the operations of healthcare offices in a short amount of time.
These skills are very applicable for a future career in healthcare or also lend themselves well to many other industries if you decide to change industries in the future.
Our registration department is a bustling department and full of activity on a daily basis.
The team works very closely together to assist and take care of our patients.
A strong desire to be customer service focused and desire to learn are absolutely a must.
Teamwork and good computer skills are a necessity for the position.
Additionally, there are certain positions that require team members to be on their feet for extended periods of time, where they may be walking in the registration area to accompany patients to a registration desk.
To be successful as a Patient Registration Specialist, you should enjoy working with people, as you will interact directly with patients, both in person and over the phone on a daily basis.
You should enjoy and thrive in a fast paced environment with competing and constantly changing priorities.
The hours of the Registration department are from 6 am - 6 pm and a weekly schedule is made allocating 8-10 hour shifts to each member of the team during that time frame.
We are open Monday - Friday (you get your weekends off!).
Some basic tasks of a Patient Registration Specialist include greeting and assisting patients; collecting and updating information; using our electronic health record; interacting with other departments and collecting copayments.
You will learn about health insurance, referrals and other operational activities in a healthcare office.

Aptitude for working directly with patients and the public Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems or a strong desire to learn.
Experience with NextGen a plus.
Detail-oriented with an high ability to multitask and adhere to timelines.
2 years + of strong customer service experience, 1 year + experience in a health related field preferred Knowledge of Medical Terminology a plus.
Understanding and compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to type and 10 key by touch.
Knowledge of common Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Outlook, and Word.
To be professional, calm, and courteous at all times.
Prioritize work load daily, weekly and monthly.
Have high accuracy and efficiency.
Communicate clearly, concisely and courteously via phone, email and in person.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Must be organized, team centered, and represent a positive image at all times.
Must have proactive communication skills when delivering information to patients.
Must maintain a harmonious and respectful relationship with all members of the Registration Team, as well as Slocum staff.
Physical demands Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Able to walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
Able to reach with hands and arms.
Ability to hear and understand in person and over the phone.
Able to speak and provide information in person and over the phone.
Able to sit or stand for long periods of time, up to 10 hours a day.
Be able to work on a computer and keyboard for up to eight hours a day.
Ability to push wheelchair occupied with a person through a lobby and in & out of elevator.
Ability to assist patient transfer chair to chair.
This would require twisting, leaning, and holding patient steady.
Base wage is $17.
25, with an adjustment to $17.
80 at the end of a 6 month training period.
After that time, there are annual reviews with increases based on practice budget.
Location: The Registration Department works at both Slocum locations, the main Eugene building at 55 Coburg Rd and the Springfield location at the RiverBend Pavilion.
Most desks work on weekly rotational shifts, which means once trained in the different areas, there are opportunities for continued growth and consistent learning.
Registration covers the opening and closing of the Slocum building, which is 6:00am to 6:00pm.
Registration works as a supportive team through out each work day, ensuring Team tasks are completed in a timely fashion while providing excellent patient services.
Being that a fully trained Registration staff has a solid knowledge base of not only Registration, but also of billing, insurance, scheduling, and so much more - it is no wonder Registration staff are the most sought after staff in the building by other Departments, hence the reason Registration tends to have a consistent opening!
