*REGISTERED NURSE - PERIOPERATIVE* *POSITION DESCRIPTION:* RiverBend ASC PACU is a fast paced, patient centered department.
The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in compliance with, but not limited to, Standards of Practice as defined by ANA, AORN, ASPAN and State Practice Act Standards, and organization protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises plan of care based on physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient/caregiver.
Maintains clinical knowledge and skills competencies to facilitate patient care in accordance with current standards of practice and monitors the environment to provide safe patient care.
*REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:* *LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:* Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Oregon.
Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 90 days of hire if not currently certified.
*EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Prefer perioperative outpatient pre-operative and/ or OR and/ or PACU experience; must exhibit good communication skills.
Prefer all skill sets or willing to cross train.
*ELIGIBILITY: *Must be able to provide proof of identity and their right to work in the United States.
*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:* * Performs comprehensive assessment of patient’s clinical condition and psycho-social needs inclusive of caregiver needs during the perioperative period.
* Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications; takes appropriate action and documents.
* Demonstrates knowledge of drugs, actions, and side effects of medications administered.
* Protects patient’s right to privacy.
* Provides patient with explanations and verbal reassurances as appropriate * Communicates clearly and concisely, assessment and reassessment of the patient in charting and with notification of surgeon and/or anesthesiologist as necessary; collaborates with all other health-care personnel and physicians in the delivery of coordinated patient care.
* Provides patient with explanations and verbal reassurances as appropriate.
* Assesses patient’s physical and emotional response(s) to treatment(s); observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications, takes appropriate action, and documents interventions and response to interventions.
* Educates patient/caregiver regarding the perioperative experience; Coordinates and supervised teaching and education to the patient and caregiver.
* Implements plan of care safely and effectively; provides safe environment.
* Maintains clinical skill competencies appropriate to areas of specialty.
* Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions, and side-effects.
* Communicates relevant information to appropriate members of the health care team.
* Consistently, accurately, and legibly completes documentation in timely manner.
* Prepares unit for subsequent patients.
* Counts narcotics at beginning and end of all shifts with another RN per facility policy.
* Attends all mandatory in-services and required staff meetings.
* Recognizes own limitations and seeks assistance and acquires sufficient information necessary to function effectively in assigned setting.
* Integrates cost-effective measures into practice.
* Participates in unit based CQI programs as assigned.
* Provides comprehensive care according to patient’s age and stage of growth and development: Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and/or Geriatric.
* Demonstrates ability to function independently; demonstrates ability to multi-task.
* Cross trains to minimum of two clinical areas.
* Performs other duties as may be appropriately required or assigned.

Communicates patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care 2.
Interacts with professional staff, patients, families, visitors, fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional facility environment 3.
Diffuses/resolves conflict by appropriately communicating with those involved.
*ATTENDANCE: *Excellent attendance required.
Is willing to work extra hours as needed.
*MACHINES / EQUIPMENT USED* Clinical equipment used for patient care, including, but not limited to, EKG monitor, defibrillator, suction equipment, stretchers, blanket and fluid warmers.

computers, copy machines, telephones, public address system, postage machine and fax machine.
*ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS* * Works in well-lighted and ventilated climate controlled environment with complicated equipment, some equipment with moving mechanical parts.
Occasional exposure to outdoor climate.
* May be exposed to patients who have communicable diseases.
With proper techniques, this risk should be minimized.
* May have occasional exposure to blood borne and airborne disease pathogens.

* May be exposed to anesthesia gases/agents, fumes or airborne particles.
* Risk of radiation exposure with radiology equipment.
* May be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
* Quiet to moderate noise levels.
Must be able to hear alarms on equipment, patient call-alarms, patient calls, over-head pages and instructions from physicians or staff.
*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS* * Requires extensive mobility: walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
* Ability to sit for long periods of time.
* Pushing, pulling, and lifting of equipment and/or patients.
* Requires mental alertness and accuracy for decision making.
* Requires ability to speak, hear, and to identify and distinguish colors.
* Use of hands to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape.
* Repetitive motion required for extensive use of computers.
* Good visual acuity.
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – POST ANESTHESIA CARE UNIT & SECOND STAGE* 1.
Performs comprehensive assessment of patient’s clinical condition and psycho social needs inclusive of caregiver needs during the post-operative period.

Demonstrates knowledge of drugs, actions and side effects of medication administered in the PACU 3.
Coordinates and supervises teaching and education to the patient and caregiver regarding recovery and post operative instructions.
4.
Maintains clinical skill competencies appropriate to areas of specialty, including but not limited to, monitoring equipment, defibrillator and IV pumps.
Job Type: Part-time Pay: $48.
