Guinea pigs are prey animals and should not be given floor time around predators (dogs, cats or ferrets for example), their cage should not be located when predators can stalk them even if they can not get to them.
Guinea pigs should be housed indoors so they get plenty of human interaction and you can control the temperature and provide light.
