Department Summary University of Oregon Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) connects UO with regional communities.
Working in partnership with UO schools and colleges, selected vendors, and national credentialing associations, CPE serves the public by enabling learning outside of the traditional university setting.
Participants do not have to be admitted students at the University of Oregon to participate in CPE programs.
Individuals can access vibrant professional development opportunities, lifelong learning enrichment courses, and community engagement activities that serve nearly 5,000 participants annually at local continuing ed programs.
Through CPE’s mission to produce or aid in the delivery of educational programs for purposes of lifelong learning and professional development, the Conference Services sub-unit provides an important resource to this mission in two ways: first, by providing specialized operational support to academic departments, individual faculty members in their hosting of on-campus events and noncredit workshops, or other auxiliary units (e.
g.
UO Housing); second, by providing technically-sophisticated and integrated conference management and customer service solutions to externally-facing professional associations for the administration and production of educational conferences and tradeshows (both small and large-scale: 10,000+ attendees).
Continuing and Professional Education programs are self-supported and fee-based; they do not use state dollars.
CPE reports to the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management.
Position Summary The IT department is the technological backbone of the Conference Services team, supporting the fulfillment of all contracted services that are critical to the successful operation of events and meetings including, but not limited to the creation of database-driven interactive websites and web applications, databases and systems integrations, administration of databases, and deployment of scalable computer networks at offsite events.
The position of Full Stack Web Developer is a key member of the IT department, collaborating with other IT team members, program managers, and clients to deliver IT systems across service areas.
The Full Stack Web Developer is knowledgeable in both client and server-side programming, database design and use, user interfaces, servers/hosting environments, security, and quality assurance.
Required skills include experience with Structured Query Language (SQL), HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
The ideal applicant will be familiar with all aspects of website development in a Linux/Unix environment, GIT-based control, and current responsive design standards.
The developer will participate in strategic decision-making, supervise and train staff to support the technical needs of clients, approach development problems with creativity, and must develop tools and systems of the highest quality.
Travel to locations for event deployment is also required.
The IT Services Manager reports directly to the Senior IT Manager of Development and Strategy.
Minimum Requirements This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in systems analysis and related programming support functions generally obtained by a bachelor's degree in computer science, or an equivalent amount of training and applied experience.
Professional Competencies • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience in team leadership and employee supervision.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks on varying timelines and work in team-oriented environments.
• Demonstrated success in the deployment of software solutions.
• Strong object-oriented design and programming skills.
• Knowledge of version control software.
• Familiarity with computer networks and server administration.
• Fluency in responsive website design.
Preferred Qualifications • Experience with PHP.
• Experience with HTML/CSS.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
• Experience with Linux/Unix and Apache-based web servers.
• Experience deploying and maintaining event hardware/software solutions • Experience providing in-person customer service at events.
